Luxury and Power: Experience the 2023 Range Rover Sport

July 29th, 2023 by

One of the Range Rovers from Land Rover’s premium lineup should satisfy your needs for off-road prowess, plush interiors, and an air of affluence. However, the 2023 Range Rover Sport is a choice that is almost as enjoyable if your budget is not quite as flexible. The Sport’s profile is comparable to the more expensive Range Rover, despite its smaller size, with an extra dose of attitude. You have a few options when it comes to powertrains, thanks to the availability of a hybrid inline-six, a plug-in hybrid inline-six, and a supercharged twin-turbo V-8.

The interior is luxurious and equipped with cutting-edge technology, such as the newest generation of Land Rover’s Pivi Pro infotainment system and driver-assistance technologies designed to improve the experience for motorists in all types of terrain. But all that is just the tip of the iceberg. Let’s take a deeper dive into this exciting new vehicle.

Engine, Efficiency, and Output

The P360 SE and P400 SE Dynamic both feature a 3.0 liter turbocharged inline-six that is powered by a 48-volt hybrid system and can generate 355 and 395 horsepower, respectively. In our testing, the P360 SE needed just 5.7 seconds to reach 60 mph, but it felt much slower than that in city driving, where a full-throttle acceleration isn’t acceptable. However, despite the patchwork pavement around our Michigan headquarters, our test vehicle provided an unrivaled riding experience. The luxurious Autobiography trim is the only one available with the plug-in hybrid P440e system, which adds an electric motor to the standard inline-six engine for a total of 434 horsepower. The P530 First Edition has the most flavorful meat, as it is powered exclusively by a 4.4-liter V-8 engine with dual turbochargers that generate 523 horsepower.

According to Land Rover, the V-8 will rocket the Range Rover Sport to 60 mph in a swift 4.3 seconds. Each model has an air suspension that can be adjusted to your liking and comes standard with all-wheel drive. The Stormer Handling Pack is a performance driving package for the Range Rover Sport that includes features like rear-wheel steering and torque vectoring. When we first tried out the V-8 model, we were unsatisfied with the jerky and difficult-to-control throttle response. However, the Range Rover Sport’s rear-wheel steering system made parking in small areas easier than in other comparable-sized SUVs, and we were delighted by its combination of luxury and performance.

Mobility, Energy, and Durability

Until the EV version goes on sale next year, the plug-in hybrid variant is the only Range Rover Sport with a long electric driving range. The electric range is rated at 48 miles thanks to the plug-in’s 31.8 kWh battery pack, according to Land Rover.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

Fuel economy estimates for the P530 are 15 mpg city and 20 mpg highway, while the P360 and P400 are expected to achieve 20 mpg city and 25 mpg highway. The P360 SE delivered exactly 25 mpg on our highway fuel-economy test route, which is respectable for a 5387-pound SUV. Fuel efficiency figures for the Range Rover Sport can be found on the EPA’s website.

Roomy Interior, Unparalleled Comfort, and Plenty of Cargo

This iteration’s interior is noticeably less cluttered than its predecessor, thanks to the removal of extraneous controls and a general trend toward minimalism. Two-tone designs are available in both textile and genuine leather upholstery, giving customers a wide range of options. There’s a touch of class added by the blackened chrome embellishments. The front seats are power-adjustable, but an optional rear seat package adds massage, ventilation, and winged headrests, for a total of 22, in addition to the already wide range of adjustments. An optional built-in air filtration system is offered, which eliminates in-car odors, germs, and allergens, per the manufacturer.
