Barney Smith’s Toilet Seat Art Museum
Barney Smith, a retired plumber, showcases his collection of decorated toilet seats and lids at this garage museum. Its walls and rafters are packed to the brim with these accessorized bathroom necessities for visitors of all ages to come see, and you can even bring your own toilet seat to be decorated by Smith himself.
Buckhorn Saloon and Museum
After transitioning to a museum during the Prohibition era, Buckhorn Saloon reopened as a museum and saloon hybrid once alcohol became legal again. The location features countless longhorn cattle, elk and buffalo plaster heads, impressive taxidermy fakes, a replica of early 20th Century San Antonio and a wax figure exhibit.
World’s Largest Cowboy Boots
Everything is bigger in Texas, as the saying goes, which is the best way to describe these 40-foot-tall cowboy boots. Made of concrete and fiberglass that have been designed to look like ostrich skin, these boots are a Texas-style marvel.
Bracken Cave
An estimated 20 million bats, the largest colony of its kind, reside in Bracken Cave each year from March to October. The show starts at dusk each night when you can see the massive group of flying mammals jet out over the cave.
U.S. Army Medical Department Museum
Existing since 1862 and now residing at Fort Sam, the U.S. Army Medical Department Museum showcases medical antiquities and memorabilia that the military has contributed to assist both soldiers on the battlefield and civilians off it.
